Agricultural Economics - BS, Finance and Real Estate Option

This program is designed to assist in the development of economic theory and quantitative analysis skills that students can apply to analyze and communicate about the real estate and finance industries in Texas, the U.S., and the world.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics offers students four options: Finance and Real Estate, Food Marketing Systems, Policy and Economic Analysis, and Rural Entrepreneurship. The course requirements for the freshman and sophomore years are the same for the above Agricultural Economics options.

The Finance and Real Estate option equips students with the analytical and critical thinking skills to understand financial markets in the farm sector, corporate sector, and government sector. Students are especially prepared for work in the farm credit industry and with regional banks. Students can also choose to focus on real estate with a heavy emphasis placed on commercial real estate development, management, and appraisal. Students have high-impact activities available such as industry internships, study abroad opportunities, and the ability to directly work with faculty on research projects.

The program also prepares students for advanced degrees, such as, Master of Finance, Master of Real Estate, or Master of Business Administration. Graduates will have strong backgrounds in finance, real estate, accounting, and management. Additionally, students can earn credits through the Appraiser Qualifications Board, setting them up to become licensed appraisers via the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board. For more information on obtaining an appraisal license in Texas, students can visit the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board website.
