The Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology involves intense laboratory-conducted research, coupled with rigorous scholarly contemplation of mycology or bacteriology principles that relate to foundational ecological, medical, and industrial contexts.

Students who complete the course of study in the Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology will have mastered experimental method and design to produce and interpret data for addressing questions involving free-living and pathogenic microbial systems.
